Solution Control of root wilt in coconut

Summary Root wilt is one of the harmful disease in coconut. It cause flaccidity of leaves, stunted growth and reduction in yield and oil percentage. In Kerala, this disease causes severe yield loss. Though the control method for this disease has not ben standerdized, but suitable cultural practices can minimizs the severity of infestation.

Challenge/Issue 1. Abnormal beding and ribbing of leaves (Flaccidity).

2. Stunted growth.

3. Low yield.

4. Lower amount of copra.

5. Low oil content.
Method 1. Application of recomended NPK fertilizers.

2. Application of organic manures.

3. Application of Magnesium sulphate @ 1 kg per tree.

4. Good drainage facility.

5. Irrigation at summar months.

6. Prophylectic measures for other diseases and pests.
Lessons learned 1. Full control of the disease has not yet been possible.

2. Cultural practice is beneficial to minimize the yield loss.
