Summary The project aims to safely destroy POP's and obsolete pesticides (Component 1); remediate pesticide-contaminated sites (Component 2); and establish mechanisms to deal with empty pesticide and other waste plastic containers (Component 3). As well as addressing the end-of-life cycle stage, the project aims to prevent wastes by interventions at earlier life cycle stages, strengthen the institutional and regulatory framework for managing pesticides through their life cycle (Component 4); and increasing the successful uptake of alternatives to the most hazardous chemical pesticides on key crops (Component 5). These five components are supported by a horizontal project management, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and awareness/communication component (Component 6) which will inform project execution decisions and create the necessary conditions for beneficiary knowledge and participation in project activities.
