The Foundation for Forest Management and Production Control (SBB) was established on 22 August 1998 by the Minister of Natural Resources, who was then responsible for the management of the Surinamese forest. Since 2005, the SBB has been a working arm for the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Soil and Forest Management.
The board of the SBB is composed as follows:

The SBB holds office at the Ds. Martin Luther Kingweg pc. no. 283 in Paramaribo. To optimize its activities, the SBB has field posts at Nieuw Nickerie, Apura, Stichting Experimentele Landbouw (S.E.L.), Afobaka, Brownsweg and Moengo. There are also road checkpoints at Stolkertsijver, on the Libanon road (Wanica) and in Paranam. The first Managing Director of the SBB was Mr Ir. Iwan E.A. Krolis.
THE SBB KNOWS 5 DIRECTORATES:
• Forest management
This directorate is responsible for checking the forest layout and carrying out field, road, sawmill and mobile control activities. The inspections of timber and wood products are also carried out by employees of this directorate;
• Research and development
The Directorate for Research and Development has as main task to carry out research and to keep up with developments concerning the forestry sector and related sectors;
• Facility services
This includes the departments: Information Technology, Data Processing and Facility Management and Logistics.
• Forestry Economic Services
This Directorate is responsible for the economic analyzes of the forestry sector;
• Financial and Personnel Affairs
This Directorate is responsible for the Accounting, the Debtors Administration, the collection of forest levies and the personnel policy

The sub-directorate for legal affairs
This sub-directorate is charged with making an inventory and making recommendations with regard to the improvement of the existing (forestry / environment) legislation.
These directorates must promote sustainable forest management and supervise compliance with the Forest Management Act. The SBB consists of a motivated team of more than 100 employees, most of whom work at the Forest Management Directorate and hold the position of Forester.
