
The Network of Burundi Community Telecentre (RTCB) has just begun, with support from CTA, consultations for the drafting of its Strategic Plan 2010-2014. The first workshop to be held from 25 to 27 January 2010 has been launched at the Community Center of Bujumbura.
This workshop brought together various partners, public and private sector in Burundi including administrators, representatives of youth organizations, representatives of groups of farmers, representatives of media, telecom. The workshop was opened by Mr. Nikoyagize Sabin, Director of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications, who in his speech, held to remind the National ICT Policy in rural areas in general and the establishment of rural telecentres in particular.
According to Mr Nikoyagize, the importance attached by the Government for the development of rural areas leads to the establishment of a universal fund that addresses access to telecommunications and service for all. He therefore strongly supports the deployment of rural telecentres in that they can provide outreach services to people through ICT. The representative of Ministry of Transport Post and Telecommunications has concluded by thanking the RTCB for this laudable initiative and promised effective collaboration in the deployment of telecentres in rural areas.
